NYC & Hudson River July 21-26

Maggie Jo is taking us into New York City - Here we are at Berrazzano'narrows Bridge.

Getting closer to the city. Imagine all those that were coming to this country what they were
thinking as they were getting closer.

God Bless America! Our lady of liberty. Very humbling to be passing by her on boat.

Hudson River is very picture perfect.

Half Moon Bay Marina 20 miles north of New York City.

Tom went up hill in hot weather to get groceries.  No plastic bags are being allowed in the 
state of New York (which is good) so he advertised XTRA soap.

Maritime Museum was kind enough to open for us and it was awesome. Kingston, NY was a good stop.

Weather watch we had some rain.

Taking the dinghy to go and get ice.  

Shady Harbor put on a pig roast and had a live band.  We reconnected with Adiago and met 
other loopers here as well.

Delaware Bay & NJ Coast July 18-20

We left the Chesapeake - Delaware Canal for the Delaware Bay traveling to Cape May New Jersey. This was the lighthouse entering Delaware Bay.

The next day we left Cape May in heavy fog. We traveled about 50 miles offshore the NJ coast.

Traveling in the fog we used two chartplotters, our AIS
 (which shows vessels on the chartplotter), our radar, and our radio.

The fog started clearing before we turned into Barnegat Inlet.

Our second day on the NJ Coast was beautiful.

We traveled up into Sandy Hook Bay, south of NYC, and traveled down to a looper friends of our dock. We were tied to their Krogen Express 52. They even had shore power f or Maggie Jo.
We social distance visited.

Rock Hall & Chesapeake City MD July 14-17

If it seems we are moving slow, it's because the Erie Canal is still closed.
Should open The first week in August.
We need to go thru the Erie Canal to get back to the Great Lakes.
Canada is also still closed so we will skip that and travel back in that area next summer.

Traveling to Rock Hall MD we are approaching the Chesapeake Bay Bridge

This ship was anchored, so it was easy to get around her.

This Ice Cream was great. Cow to the Cone in less than 48 hours.
Meet up with our friends on "Seabatical" who we haven't seen since Florida. 

Met this vessel coming out of the C & D Canal (Chesapeake & Delaware)
where we will cross to the Delaware Bay.

We spent two nights on a free wall in Chesapeake City on the C & D canal
waiting for wind and waves to settle on the Delaware Bay.

Can't leave the Chesapeake without eating some Hard Shell Crabs.

Herrington Harbour North Beach MD June 2020

We were at Herrington Harbour Marine for 30 days. Very nice.
We were on the O dock and the T dock. Long walk to the office and pool.

These flowers were bigger than my hand.

Every couple of years we have gotten to connect with Steve and Sheila (Steve and Tom were roommates in the early 70's)  This time we were just a couple of miles from them and we had fun getting to meet some of their friends and
going to some of their favorite spots.  We had to have one beer at this ship bar.  Thanks to them
we got a ride to the airport and picked up , provisions and lots of fun in between. 

Flying back to North Dakota and Iowa for our son's wedding, family time, and business.

Wedding was near Mayville ND, my birthplace. We were surprised
that our son Chris came from Kansas City , even though it was on his wife
graduation day and now is a Pediatrician.  Thank you Rachel!!!

Went to Bismarck ND to take care of some family business and to see my sisters.
Also stopped at the Veterans Cemetery by Fort Lincoln south of Mandan ND where my parents ashes are buried.

Samuel (our grandson) what can we say? He had grown so much
since Christmas and talks. Following him around and playing with him can wear you out but what a blessing.
Oh yes we had fun with Mom (Emily) and Son in Law Joshua.  Tom and Josh worked on framing out
their storage area in basement.  Emily and I worked on getting the baby girls room ready for end of August. 

Solomon Islands June 5-7

Coming into the Solomon Island aircraft landing at the
Naval Air Station were only a couple hundred feet over us.

We rode our bike to the Anmarie Sculpture Garden and Art Center.

We had visitors - Steve Stoller (housemate in Minneapolis in the 70's) and
his wife Sheila (classmate of mine from where I grew up, Linton ND).

Chesapeake East Bay May30-June4

We arrived at Tangier Island, where everyone on the island is involved in the Crab and Lobster trade.
This was the marina owners boat. Mr Parks was 88 year old and really sharp.

The cemeteries on the island were interesting. 

Due to the island water level the graves are shallow.
This is beside the new clinic, but no connection.
Mr. Parks daughter was the Doctor.

A lot of the yards had a burial areas in them.

We bought some softshells from a Watermen and learned to clean them Tangier Style.

Sauteed the softshells in butter and old bay after a 90 second par-boil.

All of the Crab Shanties are built over the water.

There was only one hot food restaurant and one ice cream shop open. Perfect. Pineapple/Vanilla Twist.

The British fleet let this island to attack Washington DC and succeeded, then Baltimore and failed.

If you zoom-in and read this the majority are 3 or 4 surnames.

We left Tangier and went to Crisfield on the East Bay Mainland.
This is the Crab Capital on the US.

Don't forget about the tides when you beach your dinghy.
 Lucky there were friend around to help drag it back to the water.

After leaving Crisfield we stopped at Smith Island to buy some of their famous cake that they ship all over the world.

A smooth cruise crossing back west across the bay to the Solomons Islands.
